GS Engineering and Construction announced last Wednesday that its UK-based subsidiary modular company - Elements Europe had secured a construction contract for the Camp Hill project, the largest modular housing project in the UK.
With a value of around 210 billion won (about 164 million dollars), the project is a city redevelopment project by the UK's Good Stone Living at the Camp Hill site. The project is located around 1.6 kilometres from the Birmingham City Centre.
The project has six buildings, spanning around 3 to 26 floors, to accommodate 550 rental housing units and commercial facilities. The construction has expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
Elements Europe will be in charge of the manufacturing and install rental housing units and commercial facilities using modular manufacturing or prefabrication, which involves assembling ready-made modules into a building at the final site location.
The company will design and prefabricate more than 1,100 modules in their factory and transport them to the construction site for installation.
This approach is eco-friendly and can help to reduce the effects of environmental and noise pollution in the surrounding area.
The latest deal is the second major modular project of the company, after a construction contract for a 23-story hotel in London last year.
GS E&C President Huh Yoon-Hong said that "Our company seeks to gradually expand its presence in the modular manufacturing industry as the field has expected to grow globally."
"By ramping up our efforts on eco-friendly businesses, including modular construction, we aim to leap forward as a leading ESG firm (represent for Environmental - Social – Governance, a framework used to assess an organization's business practices and performance on various sustainability and ethical issues)".
